Toyota Launches Redesigned 2025 Land Cruiser Prado

February 24, 2026

Imagine driving an SUV that effortlessly navigates urban streets while conquering rugged terrains with equal prowess. The 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado embodies this duality, offering exceptional performance, sleek design, and cutting-edge technology. This next-generation SUV elevates driving dynamics, off-road capability, safety, and practicality, all wrapped in a bold new aesthetic that appeals to urban families and adventure seekers alike.

Honoring Legacy, Redefining Excellence

The new Prado is built on the robust TNGA-F platform, shared with the flagship Land Cruiser 300 series. This architecture enhances rigidity and strength, forming the foundation for its superior performance. Toyota has also equipped the Prado with its latest driver-assistance systems, multimedia technology, and active safety features, alongside a new 48-volt V-Active hybrid powertrain paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

During development, Toyota revisited the Land Cruiser’s roots, drawing inspiration from its iconic durability. The 2025 Prado reflects this heritage through its design, versatility, off-road prowess, and functional upgrades.

Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia’s Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and Franchise Operations, emphasized that the new model’s distinctive styling, enhanced driving dynamics, and advanced technology will broaden its appeal. "Australians love the Land Cruiser Prado for its family-friendly practicality, unmatched off-road capability, and legendary reliability," he said. "This iteration elevates those qualities while introducing a modern design, improved tech, and greater comfort."

"Whether for daily commutes or off-grid adventures, the new Prado delivers," Hanley added.

Five Trim Levels, Tailored for Every Need

The 2025 Prado lineup includes five variants: the entry-level GX, mid-tier GXL, premium VX, off-road-focused Altitude, and range-topping Kakadu. All feature the V-Active hybrid system and eight-speed transmission.

Dimensions: Expanded for Comfort

The TNGA-F platform grants the Prado a 60mm longer wheelbase (2850mm), wider tracks (+79mm front, +83mm rear), and increased overall length (+165mm to 4990mm) and width (+95mm to 1980mm), translating to more cabin space.

Exterior: Retro Meets Functional

The design pays homage to classic Land Cruisers with a low beltline, flat hood, and expansive glass areas for superior visibility off-road. Flared edges and high-mounted lighting minimize damage risks in rough terrain.

Interior: Tech-Forward Comfort

The cabin receives a comprehensive overhaul, accommodating five or seven passengers depending on configuration. A 12.3-inch touchscreen (or steering-wheel controls) runs Toyota’s latest infotainment system, compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, plus Bluetooth®, AM/FM/DAB+ radio, and cloud-based navigation.

Powertrain: Efficiency Meets Capability

The Prado exclusively uses Toyota’s proven 2.8L turbo-diesel four-cylinder, now with 48V hybrid assistance for smoother operation and better fuel economy. Outputs stand at 150kW/500Nm, channeled through an eight-speed automatic with a wider ratio spread. Full-time 4WD, a dual-range transfer case, and a Torsen® limited-slip differential ensure traction.

Altitude: Off-Road Special

The adventure-ready Altitude adds a rear locker and front stabilizer disconnect mechanism (SDM) to maximize wheel articulation.

Driver Aids: Confidence On and Off Road

Standard systems include downhill assist, crawl control, and trailer sway mitigation (supporting 3500kg towing). VX and Kakadu models gain adaptive suspension for improved ride quality, while all variants benefit from revised brakes and electric power steering.

Safety: Comprehensive Protection

Every Prado includes Toyota Safety Sense with pre-collision braking, full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and nine airbags. Connected services enable remote vehicle access via the myToyota app.
